Biography

Alva S. Baker, MD, CMD, a certified geriatrician, was the Medical Director for EMA since the opening of Fairhaven, a continuing care retirement community, in 1980. He was also engaged in the private practice of medicine in Westminster, Maryland, until July of 1994, when concurrent with the opening of Copper Ridge, a facility dedicated to care, teaching and research for persons with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory impairing disorders, he began working full time for EMA.

He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society and of the Southern Medical Association. A Certified Medical Director, he is a member of the American Medical Directors Association and served as its President in 2007-2008. He is also a member of Carroll Home Care and the Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County. Dr. Baker is an Associate Medical Director for Carroll Hospice. He is a member of the Medical Staff of Carroll Hospital Center in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Baker is the Executive Director of The Copper Ridge Institute.
