The Copper Ridge Institute Advanced Dementia Training for Professionals

This comprehensive program provides support for a professional caregiver to obtain advanced training in dementia care with The Copper Ridge Institute. The program consists of a one-week program of intensive training at Copper Ridge, a long-term care facility for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses in Sykesville, Maryland. Participants will receive 40 hours of classroom-style teaching, one-one-one tutorials, and hands-on practica from experts in dementia care from Copper Ridge and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Program

The Program consists of a one-week program of intensive training at Copper Ridge, a long-term care facility for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses in Sykesville, Maryland. The student will receive 40 hours of classroom-style teaching, one-on-one tutorials, and hands-on practical from experts in dementia care from Copper Ridge and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The scholarship will cover the costs of tuition, all books and materials, room and board.

Eligibility Criteria

The successful candidate should:

  • be a health-care professional working with persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementing illnesses
  • be working with an under-served population, preferably in Maryland have insufficient personal or institutional funds to pay tuition at Copper Ridge Institute
  • demonstrate that the training will improve patient care in his/her facility or community

Application Procedure

Applicants should make their requests in a letter to the Mildred Baron Scholar Fund Selection Committee, c/o The Copper Ridge Institute, 710 Obrecht Rd, Sykesville, MD 21784. The letter should outline the applicant’s need for training, describe the population served, and explain how the training will impact the care of persons with dementia in the facility or community. A resume or curriculum vitae should be included, along with a letter of support from the director of the applicant’s institution, director of nursing, or other clinical/administrative supervisor.
